Full Story: Continuity Advisers Inc. (CAi) is pleased to announce that they will be hosting a free seminar covering a wide range of strategies designed to mitigate the impact of a disaster event to your business.
The Keynote speaker will be Michael Smith who, while discussing the concept of corporate readiness, will touch on some of the underlying factors driving the need for best practices related to business continuity planning. Michael brings more than 20 years of consulting experience in the areas of Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Crisis Management and Emergency Response. His past positions include Managing Director and Global Practice Leader at Marsh Risk Consulting, prior to which he was a leader in the Business Continuity practice for Ernst and Young in North America. He was also Consulting Principal for IBM Canada’s Business Continuity and Recovery Services consulting group and has most recently established his own consulting practice, Ready Smith Inc., based out of Toronto.
From a regulatory standpoint, Maysar Al-Samadi of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada will speak to the increasingly stringent regulatory pressures being placed on the financial services sector in Canada. Specifically, Mr. Al-Samadi will touch on the recently adopted By-Lay 17.16, requiring all member firms to maintain an effective and regularly tested business continuity plan.
With an emphasis on current events, a Mark Breen from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care will be present to discuss the concept of Pandemic Preparedness. What is pandemic influenza? Why should I be concerned? What can I do to prepare (a) my family and (b) my business? Through education and adequate preparedness, the impact of an influenza pandemic can be mitigated.
Lastly, John O'Grady, Chief Safety Officer of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will address the issue of "public transit challenges during a pandemic". Specifically, John will offer his insight into some of the measures currently being taken by the TTC to combat this looming threat.
