Full Story:
Continuity Advisers Inc. (CAi) is pleased to announce that they will be hosting a free seminar for all GTA law firms, covering a wide range of strategies designed to mitigate the impact of a disaster event to your business.

The Keynote speaker will be Michael Smith who, while discussing the concept of corporate readiness, will touch on some of the specific complications associated with wide area disasters. Michael brings more than 20 years of consulting experience in the areas of Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Crisis Management and Emergency Response. His past positions include Managing Director and Global Practice Leader at Marsh Risk Consulting, prior to which he was a leader in the Business Continuity practice for Ernst and Young in North America. He was also Consulting Principal for IBM Canada’s Business Continuity and Recovery Services consulting group and has most recently established his own consulting practice, Ready Smith Inc., based out of Toronto.

With an emphasis on current events, Mark Breen from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care will be present to introduce the concept of Pandemic Preparedness. What is pandemic influenza? Why should I be concerned? What can I do to prepare (a) my family and (b) my business? Through education and adequate preparedness, the impact of an influenza pandemic can be mitigated.

From a legal standpoint, Daniel McKeown and Katherine Ford of Sherrard Kuzz LLP will be present to discuss the importance of people focused pandemic planning, touching specifically on the associated workplace and labour related liability issues. Both Daniel and Katherine are extremely well versed on the topic, having presented to numerous audiences in recent months.

Last but certainly not least, Megan Evans and Dr. David Cameron of Cassels, Brock and Blackwell LLP will speak to the myriad of health related legal complications that will be sure to surface in the event of a pandemic. Both Megan and David specialize in health law, advising health care clients on a wide range of legal issues, pandemic preparedness being one of them.
